The Girls
by David Turner
Company: Maximus
Venue: Maximus Actors’ Arena, Leicester Square, London
Performance dates: 14th to 20th August, and 28th August to 3rd September, 1975
Synopsis: Two spinsters, both retired schoolteachers, refuse to shift from their cottage to make way for a new ring road. Their reasons for resisting the entreaties of a young borough engineer near the end of his tether are intensely personal and faintly macabre. A neat exercise in short story-telling and effective characterisation.
